Na Fásóga

Terenure Growers is a developing community group that aims to spread knowledge regarding gardening with nature as well as improving the biodiversity of Terenure through our first rewilding project located in Eaton Square Park.

As part of the educational aim we will have a schedule of activities specific for children and their guardians. We’ve decided to name the children’s section of Terenure Growers Na Fásóga. Fás is the verb to grow coupled with óga meaning young which can be applied to both plants and children so we thought it was the perfect fit. We are also delighted to be able to partner with Glór na nGael to be able to deliver our activities in Irish as well as in English. Depending on interest and demand these may be delivered together or separately.

Our schedule of activities will be educational, fun and hands-on so we will be recommending old clothes and a fun attitude. We will cover such topics as:

  • Understanding soil, what creatures live in soil and how to make your own compost this will include hands on messy fun as well as making microbiomes to take home

  • Getting to know bulbs, seeds, native Irish plants and biodiversity which will include creative projects such as bark rubbings and making hedgehogs as well as learning how to age a tree, plant bulbs and collecting seeds

  • Living creatures and how we can me mindful of them. We will be focusing on many minibeasts that live in our garden as well as native Irish mammals and birds.

Our events will be hosted outside in our rewilding and educational space in Eaton Square Park. It is likely these will occur two times per month on Sunday afternoons.

We will be useful the educational resources written by Juanita Browne, Éanna Ní Lamhna and other authors. All books are available to borrow from the library and will form an important part of our collective learning. There will be no need for guardians to purchase anything in order to attend these sessions, however there will be a small fee to cover the costs of running the sessions.

We will shortly be sending out a form to the wider community to assess interest in the planned activities and so we can meet the communities educational needs. You can register your interest by using the buttons above and below this text.
