Terenure Grower’s publishes its first newsletter

We are very grateful to Harold’s Cross Business Depot for printing our first newsletter. We did a limited print run of 200 which have been distributed in Terenure along with the free seeds Terenure Grow Along initiative. There was resounding positive feedback on the door steps for all the community work ongoing in the Eaton Square garden space project. The Alliums are now in full bloom as are the Irish bluebells and the potato leaves are shooting out of the ground too. We encourage you to keep an eye as things progress throughout the summer.

Many residents queried the demise of their box hedges and as we were at the door step we were able to actively show residents the box tree moth caterpillars eating through their box hedges. Unfortunately the caterpillars can eat through a hedge very quickly and the hedge may not recover at all. Once the caterpillar has had its fill it enters the next stage of development turning into a moth and travelling onto the next box hedge. As a result of the demise of the box hedge we noted an increase in newly planted yew hedging, this was very heartening to see that Terenure is once again becoming the Land of the Yews. Yew is a great Irish evergreen hedge which can be shaped just like box hedging.
