Visit to the Kingfisher Project and the Rediscovery Centre Ballymun

We had the absolute pleasure of visiting the Kingfisher Community Garden and Allotment space in Kimmage. Donal and all the team were very welcoming to the seven visitors from Terenure.

We saw how they have transformed what was a dump space into a fabulous natural habitat and productive allotment space too. It is a really excellent community and educational space and we look forward to learning from our neighbours as we start out on our community garden journey in Terenure.

On March 11th we visited the Rediscovery Centre in Ballymun who were extremely generous in providing lots of pollinator friendly seeds for our new garden space and so the community can get growing.

I also learnt that my ‘make my own compost experiment’ was the going really well and sometimes you just need to give things a go. I will continuing turning my compost until we have lovely broken up soil for planting and the that there are big juicy earthworms roaming amongst the leaf matter and vegetable scraps is a really good sign.

Next visits will be to the Ringsend Community Garden as well as Santry Community Garden. Anyone is always welcome to part take in visits or recommend other sites to see and learn from.

Great news from this weekend is that the Parks department and their horticultural team will be visiting at Eaton Square park to discuss and plan the community garden space.
