Meitheal Oibre in Terenure’s Eaton Square Park - raised over €1200 for charity
What a wonderful show of community spirit and support for the people of Gaza last weekend. The Terenure Growers donned their baking aprons to bake up some delicious treats to go with the teas and coffees and we raised over €1200 for two charities assisting people on the ground in Palestine. The Irish Red Cross Gaza Appeal going towards the Red Crescent as well as Medecines Sans Frontieres Gaza Appeal.
Not only were we delighted to support a very worthy humanitarian cause but also the sun shone and up to 100 people stopped by to support the fundraiser and to role up their sleeves to help prepare the Eaton Square Garden space for new planting. We have been busy chitting potatoes and growing seeds as well as acquiring some new plants thanks to a grant from Dublin City Council community team.
Many hands make light work, the mustard seed we planted last autumn had done a marvellous job at keeping most of the weeds at pay so that the soil was nice and healthy for planting up our vegetables and herbs. We decided to hold onto a corner of the mustard seed to support pollinators and to continue to enjoy its pretty yellow flower.
The tulip bulbs of varying shades of purple were much admired by all and everyone is very much looking forward to seeing the alliums come into their own very soon. Some bald patches were tended to with permanent plants such as sedum, cat nip, wallflowers and foxgloves.
We know from the participation of so many, aging from 3 to 83 years old that the new garden space is a much loved amenity. We look forward to continually enhancing the space through the seasons. Wildflower seeds will be sown very soon.

Thanks again to everyone.
