Art Connections in Rathgar connecting those with disabilities rather beautifully through the arts

Today, Sunday 16th July 2023 myself and my family had the absolute pleasure to attend the Art Connections annual exhibition of art. Art Connections is a local charity based in Rathgar supporting people with disabilities through the arts. The work on show at today’s exhibition was produced by many artists living with varying disabilities across Ireland and my goodness they all delivered.

It was a stunning and joyful display showcasing a variety of styles and influences. From a ‘pop art’ style dog with a vibrant yellow background, to a very detailed bird with exquisitely detailed painted feathers. Being an arts and crafts person I know the time and level of effort each of the artists would have given to their respective works. There was beautiful portraiture in charcoal, there were stunning landscapes as well as mixed media exhibits.

All works more than deserved to be there and I hope all artists and their families and friends are rightly proud this evening. The works would hold there own in any RHA exhibition so watch this space in the future.

The exhibition is free, donations to Art Connections gladly accepted. The exhibition is running from today until Tuesday 18th of July in the Royal College of Surgeons, St Stephen’s Green. I believe the works, which are for sale, will then go on a tour over the course of the next few months.

My wholehearted congratulations to Miriam Spollen, the Art Connections team and many volunteers who worked together to create this feast for the eyes. I’m afraid I can’t share any pictures at the moment as I don’t want to ruin the surprise of the exhibition. I will say however, that I picked up some of the printed cards for sale and they are simply gorgeous, so if you get one of these cards from me in the future, know that I must hold you in very high regard. :-)

To all the artists at Art Connections keep inspiring the rest of us.
